2004-07-31 [LonelyTylenol]: One of the people there (one of my friends who's in pit, as most of them are in hornline) broke her arm. She was wheeling the big chimes down to the soccer field, where we practice, and it fell on her arm... She had to stay overnight at the hospital and my mom stayed with her... And she had the choice to come back or go home and she decided to come back. It was crazy, because it's not like she can really play xylo witha cast on... But she basically just sat there and watched us practice, plus some extra sleep. But everyone was proud of her...

A lot of them dropped them, but they didn't take off points, which kind of got me mad... But that's okay... This year our colorguard will be playing on some big pep band bass drums... That'll be fun...

We got First place and grand champion, outstanding percussion, outstanding drum majors, and outstanding colorguard! Irondale got outstanding wind for class AAA and Marshall got crowd pleaser. OMG! My first ever competition and we won!

2004-09-15 [LonelyTylenol]: My parents aren't very supportive of me switching instruments constantly. It sucks. I was going to try out for battery this year, but now my friend isn't (the one who pushed me to try out) so I don't really feel like it. Maybe, maybe not. And my parents don't think I should switch to tuba again. I don't see why not... They don't even support me taking extra lessons to learn it without actually playing it in band. You know, maybe I could be a band director/ teacher. That would be fun.
2004-09-16 [Digital Fortress]: Yeah, that would be fun. One time, my band director had us switch instruments for a little while. If you were a brass instrument, then you had to switch with a woodwind. And if you were a woodwind, you had to switch with a brass. It was really fun.

Only, I know I'm not going to make it for next year, because they won't let sophomores, because experience is good and my parents couldn't be less supportive. I told my dad and he says "Yeah, that's great. We were trying to get your sister to try out" so I'm sure that sounds nice. Then, later, I was practicing the drill commands and stuff and my dad's like "Just stop it. That's annoying as hell." Gee, thanks for your support, dad. (Note the sarcasm) Anyways!!!! My mom... My parents didn't want me to try to pick up tuba again, but I ignored them and asked the directors for lessons, which majorly impressed them because they didn 't know they I played tuba, even though my sister told them... Yeah... But when I wanted to try out for battery, my dad's like "I wish you wouldn't" and I don't think my mom realizes how much work the pit puts in. She's trying to convince me to "Do everything I can", and therefore be in the hornline and march. Of course, she said that about a month ago...
2004-09-19 [Digital Fortress]: wow. Your parents aren't very supportive. Mine, they want me to do the best I can at whatever I want. They basically let me choose what to do with my life, then support my choice. Like, for instance, the time that I had to choose what instrument I wanted to play in band. (when I was just starting out) My mom wanted me to play clarinet ('cause that's what she used to play) but I chose French Horn instead. After, she said that she was proud that I wanted to play the hardest instrument in the band.
2004-09-19 [LonelyTylenol]: My dad said "Don't pick percussion" I'm guessing because he didn't want to have to listen to me practicing and he also "Advised" me not to pick french horn and he always complains that they're rarely played in tune. My dad can be that way, and I hate it. It's mostly his fault that I stopped playing tuba in the first place.

2004-09-25 [LonelyTylenol]: YAY! We won another competition! There're two today and I just got home from one. We got first place. They didn't give out a grand champion or crowd pleaser, but we also got outstanding colorguard, percussion, soloist, and wind. We did three points better than the second place band. But we didn't get drum major. We all know that it wasn't one of our best competitions. The sun in our eyes and the heat didn't do us any good. But it kinda sounds like all the bands had the same problem, if we won anyways. So, there's another show tonight, and I can't wait. It should turn out well. We all have extra inspiration, I guess, to win since we know we didn't do well...

2004-09-25 [LonelyTylenol]: I stand corrected. Next week, we have one Friday night, but we have Saturday off because it's our homecoming dance that night. Two weeks after that we have two shows. The Saturday we're competing, but the Sunday is our own. The week after that (we're now at October 15, a Friday), we have a football game. Then, the very next day, we leave for an overnight trip to Iowa. The following Monday is our indoor concert, and then Pep band probably starts.

2004-09-26 [LonelyTylenol]: We won. We so won! We got outstanding colorguard and soloist. We maybe could've gotten more, but there's really tough competition at their show. And lots of people. Awards were pretty well spread out. So we got them and first place. And we all felt good about this comepetition because we all really felt like our first one sucked. And this one I gave 263%. You can ignore that. You wouldn't get it.
